A Letter to American Workingmen eBook Vladimir Ilyich 18701924 Lenin

"The great law of capitalism in all wars; that he who is richest and mightiest profits the most, takes the greatest share of the spoils while he who is weakest is exploited, martyred, oppressed and outraged to the most." This is what Lenin appealed to the American workingmen for a revolution after the four years long of World War I. Lenin asked: shall we place the integrity and safety of this fatherland (he was referring to U.S.) created by the bourgeoisie over the interests of the international socialist revolution?

Lenin's usual no nonsense style of writing is motivational, straightforward, and incitant. His speech called for revolution in America to end the "capitalist wage slavery", just like their forefathers in the Civil War to end the slavery, and to overthrow the rule of the bourgeoisie, in a classical Marxist class struggle analysis.

To the oppressed, Lenin's encouragement was gospel-like that brought hope to the new world. For example, "the greater the bitterness and brutality they (the proleteriat) sow, the nearer is the day of the victorious proletarian revolution."; "that a successful revolution is inconceivable unless it breaks the resistance of the exploiting class...it became our duty to quell the resistance of the exploiting class. We are proud that we have done it, that we are doing it."

There are more statements like this in this pamphlet that readers nowadays might be awed. But if you considered the degree of suffering that the average workingmen were under at the time, that they echoed what Lenin said, you might be horrified by the history of the struggle of mankind. Nonetheless, history was not written the way Lenin conceived. Overall, a great little pamphlet.

Soviet Press reaches the Americas following the fall of the Soviet Union to an established democracy.
good but short it goes as 197 pages but only sixteen pages a good read for the proletariat just excellent
Good brief read highlighting socialistic thought. It is particularly relevant now with the socialistic ideas being highlighted by political candidates.
Even if considered overly optimistic in hindsight, the sentiments still ring as true today as they did almost 100 years ago.
From historical point of view but also from the political one...some things never really change, do they? Great that it is here for free! Most of Lenin's works are here for a buck or more...thanks & Project Gutenberg!
This is a good read. It is comprehensive, and short. Knowing the context of this would make it a lot more relevant I think. It was difficult for me to ascertain the purpose Lenin had in writing this. He brags a lot about Russian socialism and throws a few shout outs to America's proletariat while he is at it. Regardless, people interested in Marxism should read this.
If you can look past Lenins atrocities and what you are told to think about Socialism and Communism, you will see that he makes some very spot-on observations towards American Capitalism and greed.

The biggest bummer for me is that while the IDEA of this sounds all fine and dandy, it is no different than any Pro-Capitalism propaganda/agenda and in that sense, hypocritical.

All in all, I believe it is something that everyone should read at least once to further educate themselves on world history and politics.
